Detection of Toothbrushing Activity using Free-living Acceleration Data
نویسنده
چکیده
The present paper discusses the characterisation of toothbrushing activity, using acceleration data collected for 50 subjects in free-living conditions. The data logging is triggered by super-threshold values of acceleration, which can give rise to false activations by non-brushing activities. Due to large intra and inter individual variations, it is not possible to obtain an exhaustive training-set of all activities that trigger the logging. Thus, a structural analysis of appropriate data features is performed, which reveals a clustering of the data. The comparison with brushing activity traces from laboratory experiments allows the identification of toothbrushing activity, while the remainder corresponds to various false activation events like electronic noise or brush handling. The distribution of the resulting toothbrushing activity shows distinct peaks for morning and night

Wearable acceleration sensors are increasingly used for the assessment of free-living physical activity. Acceleration sensor calibration is a potential source of error. This study aims to describe and evaluate an autocalibration method to minimize calibration error using segments within the free-living records (no extra experiments needed). The autocalibration method entailed the extraction of ...
متن کاملPosture and Activity Detection Using a Tri-axial Accelerometer
Quantifying activity levels among healthy older adults and patients can provide objective information on sedentary behavior and physical function [1]. In order to accurately quantify activity in the free-living environment, a robust method for classifying posture and activity needs to be established. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to validate the identification of static postures and ...
متن کاملAn artificial neural network model of energy expenditure using nonintegrated acceleration signals.
Accelerometers are a promising tool for characterizing physical activity patterns in free living. The major limitation in their widespread use to date has been a lack of precision in estimating energy expenditure (EE), which may be attributed to the oversimplified time-integrated acceleration signals and subsequent use of linear regression models for EE estimation. In this study, we collected b...

Gravity acceleration data have grand pursuit for marine applications. Due to environmental effects, marine gravity observations always hold a high noise level. In this paper, we propose an approach to produce marine gravity data using satellite altimetry, high-resolution geopotential models and harmonic splines. On the one hand, harmonic spline functions have great capability for local gravity ...
